Participants exchange experiences for creating better interaction tools. With the objective of promoting best practices in web design and web development, the Usability and Accessibility for the Web International Seminar commenced works the morning of July 26 in the University of Monterrey campus.The event was co-organized the Government of Nuevo Leon, a leading state in e-government strategies, and UdeM, the pioneering university in usability-focused curricula. The opening ceremony was presided by Alfredo Garza de la Garza, Head of the State Administrative Office.The state official highlighted the governor’s commitment of having a website focused on serving citizens, not in promoting government.“The governor has made sure our website fully complies with the Right to Information Law, so that we currently have a transparent government,” Garza de la Garza declared.In the first day of activities, keynote speaker Lou Rosenfeld (US) and a discussion panel formed by Javier Velasco (Chile), Sarah Swierenga (US) y Emilio Saldaña (Mexico) shared views, ideas and experiences around website management, design and development.These sessions were attended by over 200 people and made clear how important are the concepts of usability of accessibility in the web.It was emphasized that web editors and web developers should be familiar with usability and accessibility requirements and that users will demand that websites comply with them.Present in the opening ceremony were the President of the University of Monterrey, Francisco Azcúnaga Guerra; José Ignacio Suárez García, President of the Citizen Watch Group for the state portal; Andrés Gómez Herrera, General Manager of the Presidential Internet System and Octavio Pavón González, Vice President of the Executive Committee for the Committee on Information Technology in State and Municipal Public Administration (CIAPEM).Also present were Dámaso Fernández Sepúlveda, General Managern of Technology, Information and Communications of the State Administrative Office and Raymundo Pérez Lancón, Communication Advisor for the State Government and General Coordinator of the seminar.
