About

UA WEB - What is it?

We are a non-profit organization working to make a better web for everyone.

We promote the democratic use of technology by sharing experiences about building and running websites. We work in information architecture, information design, graphic design, programming and writing for the web.

The foundations of our philosophy are usability and accessibility because we understand that standards and good practices make for more useful, cost-effective websites accessible to everyone.

Key concepts: usabilityand accesibility

Usability measures the effectiveness of websites, which is a result of how intuitive, simple and organized it is for users. When a website is conceived, developed and put together adhering to the real needs of users, it will be usable.

Accesibility means that services and information in a website can be used by anyone, no matter their circumstances or the devices they use. Having an accessible site ensures that people with visual, motor, intellectual or hearing disabilities, people with older equipment and people with mobile or other devices will still be able to take advantage of the website.

Where we come in

We want to raise the quality of websites in the government and private spheres, and that has lead us to support research, education, promotion and professionalization of some disciplines related to web.

We work to incite dialogue among our associates and everyone involved in building websites. This is our most powerful tool; documents, workshops, seminars, virtual or traditional conferences –our network is based on the exchange of ideas.

Our first achievement was creating and signing the Nuevo Leon Manifesto during the first International Seminar on Usability and Accessibility for the Web (2007). This document lays down 10 commitments governments should adhere to so that they will offer services more efficiently, share information in a more transparent fashion and encourage citizen participation in the decision-making process.

What can you do?

UA web is a young association and our activities are still being defined. These is what we have planned so far:

  1. A website to promote the association itself, our events, documents and other relevant information.
  2. Exchange ideas in events and through panels, forums and/or blogs.
  3. Promote affiliation of new members for research, facilitating courses and promotion.
  4. Promote the adherenceof additional states, municipalities and other governmental organizations to the Nuevo Leon Manifesto for websites.
  5. Developing documents to lay down a framework for our work.
  6. Promote the value of a better web for everyone among public, private organizations and media.
  7. Seminars, workshops, courses and conferences.
  8. Seek sponsorships and donations to fund activities and operational costs.
